Those runners, especially the women are brave. If viewed strictly in economic utilitarian terms, it could be seen as just a "@!$%#ing marathon". Viewed in a larger cultural context, it's a mass statement against the exaggerated influence of religious fundamentalists.

Minimum wage earners spend what they make (unlike those favored thus far by Bush & Co.) Pay them more, they spend more. They spend more, businesses sell more. Businesses sell more, owners make more. (rf)

Bush & Co have their private agenda that will be pursued at any cost. Fomenting war over there ties the hands of the Democratic Congress over here. The administration may be evil, but they're not stupid.
